Where do I fit in?

I’d call myself ‘Middle-Aged’ except most people don’t live past 100. I feel like I’m 35, only smarter, and wiser than when I hit that birthday. The people who I’ve leaned on for advice, and understanding have been leaving this world of late…and that seems to be accelerating. The Greatest Generation is leaving and The Boomers are taking their place.

  • 77 million people were born between 1946 and 1964, “BOOM!”  Well named, I think.
  • The first baby boomer turned 65 on January 1, 2011 (U.S. Census).
  • The ChronoSuper (chronologically superior) age group is now, for the first time, the largest in terms of size and percent of the population in the U.S. This age group grew at a faster rate than the total population between 2000 and 2010, according to a 2010 Census brief
  • More people were 65 years and over in 2010 than in any previous census. Between 2000 and 2010, the population 65 years and over increased at a faster rate (15.1%) than the total U.S population (9.7%).
  • In America, someone turns 50 every seven seconds.
  • By 2015, those aged 50 and older will represent 45% of the U.S. population (AARP).

We take care of our children. We take care of our parents. We take care of our grandchildren. Where the heck do I fit in? Who’s going to take care of me? What have I learned that I can share? – I’ve got a feeling other Boomers feel the same way…
