Cats…Why Must We Obey Them?

Perhaps you’ve caught a glimpse of my cat (aptly named, Kitty-Kitty) in the Header of Chronosuper. For 8 1/2 years he has been my “Companion/Overlord.” He helped me care for my parents in the last years of their lives, and now, sadly, I must care for him until the end. He is in the 4th stage of Chronic Renal Failure, or Kidney Disease. I want to do everything I can to comfort him. I love him.

Currently, I give him Subcutaneous Fluids every other day; a quarter of a Pepcid AC, 2mg of Cyproheptadine, and some kind of nasty syrup that looks like pond scum, on a twice a day basis…it’s a drag for all participants.

If anyone out there on the “WorldWide Magical InterWeb” has suggestions, experience, or tips, I’d love to hear them. In the meantime – Enjoy!…

If you are tired of being a doormat, try being a Door Man…

Feeling used and abused?

I know the feeling. It can drain you of all energy, and leave you bitter and resentful. It might even prime you to look for “payback” opportunities. I mean, why not? Give them a little of their own medicine and see how it makes them feel; right?

Or, you could try what Josh did…

“Opening a door is more than a physical act. It’s about putting yourself out there, getting to know people, making them feel comfortable, and making them feel welcome. Opening doors – It gives people hope; that people care.”

If it’s really better to give than receive, then what’s my ROI?

I mean, really… What do I get out of it?

I hear it every day.

I think it every day.

“What’s in it FOR ME?”

My business is greeting cards & gifts. They can be remotely created and sent through the amazing World Wide Web! Yowzah! Save time & money and look like a hero who SPENT time and money. Brilliant! … Or, so you’d imagine; right?

Business people know that they should be thanking/recognizing/appreciating their customers but frankly, they just don’t want to… They just want to appear as if they do.

Which begs the question: Why do I say “They?” It applies to me too. Every dollar I gain, I act like a seagull with a french fry. Hey, if I don’t gobble it down, somebody else will. Right?

Then, low and behold…somebody thanked me. Somebody logged into their SendOutCards account, that I set up for them, AND THEY  THANKED ME!

The world is topsy-turvy; that’s what I do. What is going on? I’m the one who says, “Givers Gain!” “What you send out is what you get back…It’s a law: The Law of Attraction.” It can no more be disobeyed than The Law of Gravity (which, I confess, is wrecking havoc on my physique). Yet here I am,  on the “getting” end…AND IT FEELS FABULOUS!

Heck, I feel appreciated! I feel recognized and VALIDATED for pity sake!

Forget giving! This is AWESOME! “Getting” is AMAZING!

That salesperson made me feel like a million dollars and I am going to make sure they know it…I’m going to give them the kind of appreciation, and loyalty, and friendship that other businesses dream of from their customers! If I have anything to do with it, my friends are going to know exactly who is the insightful, and appreciative person that I do business with, and they won’t settle for less!

This “getting” thing really works too!

Oh…wait…

Like I said, The Law of Attraction; it cannot be denied.

I'm having so much fun!

Handsome and funny? That is a lethal combination. How about handsome, funny, and talented? James Garner was the man. Wonderful film and television actor (1928–2014) James Garner, probably best known for his roles in Maverick and The Rockford Files, passed away Saturday 7/19. I fell in love with him when I saw Support Your Local Sheriff…You?

Ointments, Salves, Lotions and Other Mysteries of Life

As a fellow chronologically superior member of this blogosphere, I would like to brag that I DID actually throw out the unlabeled, and dried out paint cans in the garage…but not the ones that were the consistency of pudding. They’re still perfectly good.

Life in the Boomer Lane

A friend of Life in the Boomer Lane, another woman-of-a-certain-age, was out of town, staying in a hotel, and preparing to meet her first ex-husband for lunch. In spite of the fact that there would be no interest on either of their parts for hanky panky (the vintage way of saying “sex,” not the popular brand of underwear found on one’s lower half), She still wanted to look her best.  She showered and applied body lotion.  A nagging feeling told her that something was amiss. She picked up the small hotel-provided bottle of body lotion again, this time squinting at the tiny words. She had applied hair conditioner all over her body.  There was nothing left to do but get dressed, go out to meet her ex, and hope it didn’t rain and cause her to begin sudsing.

Several days later, another friend of LBL called, in a…

Where do I fit in?

I’d call myself ‘Middle-Aged’ except most people don’t live past 100. I feel like I’m 35, only smarter, and wiser than when I hit that birthday. The people who I’ve leaned on for advice, and understanding have been leaving this world of late…and that seems to be accelerating. The Greatest Generation is leaving and The Boomers are taking their place.

  • 77 million people were born between 1946 and 1964, “BOOM!”  Well named, I think.
  • The first baby boomer turned 65 on January 1, 2011 (U.S. Census).
  • The ChronoSuper (chronologically superior) age group is now, for the first time, the largest in terms of size and percent of the population in the U.S. This age group grew at a faster rate than the total population between 2000 and 2010, according to a 2010 Census brief
  • More people were 65 years and over in 2010 than in any previous census. Between 2000 and 2010, the population 65 years and over increased at a faster rate (15.1%) than the total U.S population (9.7%).
  • In America, someone turns 50 every seven seconds.
  • By 2015, those aged 50 and older will represent 45% of the U.S. population (AARP).

We take care of our children. We take care of our parents. We take care of our grandchildren. Where the heck do I fit in? Who’s going to take care of me? What have I learned that I can share? – I’ve got a feeling other Boomers feel the same way…
